Why are insulation compatible LED downlights and drivers necessary in the ceiling ? Building regulations require that insulation material is laid unbrokenly over the whole ceiling area to avoid heat loss through gaps in the ceiling. This means that insulation cannot be cleared away from LED downlights and drivers in spaces such as loft and top storey. The normal LED downlights and drivers can not survive in the insulation due to temperatures generated by the driver itself, which results in overheating.
